Introduction: Type 630 is commonly referred to as 17-4 and is a precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel supplied in Hot Rolled and Cold Finished condition_ It contains 17% chromium and 4% nickel, which makes it superior in corrosion resistance to the regular chromium-type martensitic stainless steels.
AISI 630 stainless steel (SS) surface has been reinforced with molybdenum (Mo) using gas tungsten arc (GTA) as a heat source. The optimum GTA heat source conditions have been finalised based on the proper fusion of base metal. The microhardness of the Mo-reinforced AISI 630 SS was found to be 502 HV which shows an improvement …
The discs were the AISI 630 specimens, whereas tungsten carbide (WC-Co) balls, with a diameter of 3 mm, were used as pins. The tests were performed using a linear speed of 0.67 m/s and a normal load of 5 N, resulting in a contact pressure of 1.5 GPa calculated from the classical equations described as Equations (2)–(4) for hertzian …

The terms "Type 630" and "17-4PH" refer to the same grade. Hardening — Grade 630 stainless steels are age- hardened at low temperatures to achieve the required mechanical properties .
The Cr–N/Cr–Al–N coating exhibited superior corrosion resistance compared with AISI 630 substrate. The erosion–corrosion results revealed that the smoothest wear track with the minimum erosion rate and wear depth was obtained for five‐ and seven‐layered coatings. The failure mechanism of the bare substrate was influenced by …

30 Oct 09 15:53. Hi All! We made our first flange in the 17-4PH / AISI 630 grade. After forging we performed post forge thermal treatment and later aged it to achieve a hardness of 330/335 BHN. So far so good. In the next step, we intend to machine the part and then subject it to a sub-zero quench at -60 deg or below, per customer specification.
